Clark Gregg Shares A Captain Marvel Set Photo That Will Give Marvel Fans All The Feels
At this point, we already know that 2019 will be a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only will Phase 3 come to a conclusion with the premiere of Avengers 4, but Brie Larson's Carol Danvers will also take center stage in a solo movie of her very own with the release of Captain Marvel. There's obviously a lot of anticipation leading up to the 1990s-set Marvel outing, particularly with regards to the return of Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson. Now it looks like Gregg has finally arrived on the set of the film, and he has taken to social media to tease a heartfelt reunion with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. Check out Gregg's post, below.
I swear I'm not crying. You're crying. We don't get much information from that photo, which makes sense considering Marvel's characteristically tight-lipped nature, but it clearly promises that Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson will reunite as Phil Coulson and Nick Fury, respectively. As the film will take place in the 1990s (long before Coulson's apparent demise in The Avengers), the general assumption is that the film will show the earlier years of their relationship and lay out how they came to be friends during their time as agents. New job, old friends, and all of the Marvel-ous emotion.
Of course, despite Clark Gregg's Instagram post, we still have to wait to learn some key information about Captain Marvel. For starters, we still don't know precisely how Coulson, Nick Fury, and S.H.I.E.L.D will factor into the film's story. Moreover, we also don't yet know what Nick Fury will look like in the movie, aside from the fact that he will apparently have two eyes.
It is also worth noting that Clark Gregg is not the only seemingly deceased, longtime member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who will return in Captain Marvel. In addition to the fan-favorite side character/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D hero, it was also recently announced that Guardians of the Galaxy actor Lee Pace would return to the MCU as Ronan the Accuser to help flesh out the film's adaptation of the Kree-Skrull war. With all of these new and old elements coming together, it's becoming increasingly apparent that Captain Marvel may be a Marvel film unlike any that we have seen before.
Clark Gregg will return to the film side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Captain Marvel premieres next year on March 8, 2019. Until then, make sure to watch out for all of the major Marvel heroes when the MCU comes together for Avengers: Infinity War, which will debut in theaters on April 27.
