Mark Hamill Isnt Buying That Leaked Episode IX Poster

Were approximately nine months away from the release of Star Wars: Episode IX, and a lot of Star Wars fans are eager for an official first look at the movie. While Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to provide anything on that front, earlier this week an Episode IX poster made the rounds on social media. Some assumed this was a legitimate peek at the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga, but Mark Hamill doesnt believe its the real deal. When a fan inquired if this poster had been leaked and tagged Hamill in the Twitter post, the Luke Skywalker actor responded:

Doubtful. Looks like the work of a #UPF.

UPF apparently means Ultra Passionate Fan, and you could definitely count on someone like that putting in the time and effort on a Star Wars poster. Granted, unless Disney and Lucasfilm outright come out and debunk that this Star Wars: Episode IX poster is legitimate, we dont know with 100% certainty thats the case, but Mark Hamill made it clear on Twitter that hes not buying its authenticity, and hes sticking to his guns. When another user, Indie Revolver, followed up on Hamills original comment and said that the Episode IX poster is indeed legitimate (though not necessarily meant for the public), Hamill posted:

Mark Hamill is referring to how C-3PO is holding a bowcaster, the kind of blaster Chewbacca frequently uses. The prospect of C-3PO firing on First Order stormtroopers is frankly hilarious given that aside from that time his head was attached to a battle droids body, the beloved, golden protocol droid has largely been a pacifist in the Star Wars universe. There are other interesting aspects of this Star Wars: Episode IX poster, like what looks to be the other Knights of Ren and red-colored stormtroopers resembling the Revenge of the Sith-era clone troopers, but for now, its unclear if its a true leak or a fan creation.

The only way well know for sure whether or not this is an official Star Wars: Episode IX poster is when Lucasfilm finally starts marketing the movie, and thats probably not too far off. Next month, the next Star Wars Celebration will be held in Chicago, and if its anything like the one in 2017, this could be when the first poster and trailer for Episode IX finally drop. Itll be nice to finally have some footage/images to finally associate with Episode IX, although you can bet that keeping in character, Lucasfilm will still remain as cagey as possible concerning what we can specifically expect from the plot.

No story details for Star Wars: Episode IX have been disclosed yet other than it will take place one year after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with the Resistance still putting up a fight against The First Order using guerrilla tactics. Along with returning faces like Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and, of course, Mark Hamill, the movie will also bring in newcomers like Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan and Keri Russell, as well as Billy Dee Williams finally returning to the big screen as Lando Calrissian.

Why Keira Knightley Probably Won't Appear In Another Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie

Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann was an integral part of the first three films in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean series. The actress reprised the role for a cameo in last year's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but the franchise has generally moved beyond Keira Knightley and co-star Orlando Bloom and has largely suffered for it, as the focus has been entirely on Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. Yet, despite the creative decline, these films still make money, especially overseas, so a sixth entry is likely inevitable. But if there is another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, don't expect Keira Knightley to be a part of it because she simply doesn't want to commit the time.

Even though she made a brief return to the series in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Keira Knightley does not expect to set sail for the high seas again as a part of the franchise. According to the Los Angeles Times, her reasoning is that the films simply take too long to shoot. The Pirates of the Caribbean films take five or more months of principal photography, which is considerably longer than a film that isn't on that blockbuster scale would take. Keira Knightley is a mother now, and blockbuster films like the Pirates series take a long time to shoot, so that probably factors into how much time she wants to commit to one specific project, especially one that she's done before multiple times.

Keira Knightley is also a prolific actress, and perhaps she prefers taking on lots of roles and creative challenges with shorter productions instead of having to pass up on parts because she's spending too much time shooting the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. It's understandable, even if it is a bummer for fans of her character that went from damsel in distress to badass pirate king over the course of the series.

Despite the fact that the last Pirates film suffered a $250 million drop from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, it does seem likely that a sequel will come at some point given the power of the brand and the fact that the last film still earned $795 million worldwide. I think fans might like Keira Knightley to be a part of it, if only because she was back when this franchise was performing stronger critically, but it seems that Elizabeth Swann will not be returning to right the ship. That said, there are directions that a sixth film could go in to try and reinvigorate and reinvent the franchise.

Keira Knightley may be done with Pirates of the Caribbean, but she isn't done with Disney. The actress will be seen later this year, in a perfect bit of casting, as the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
