Disneys Princesses Had A Say In Their Ralph Breaks The Internet Roles

Disneys Princesses Had A Say In Their Ralph Breaks The Internet Roles

In the current age of shared universes and massive franchises, crossovers have become commonplace. Fans of Disney animated features and princess movies, are in for a major treat with the upcoming release of Rich Moore and Phil Johnston's Ralph Breaks the Internet. The highly anticipated Wreck-It-Ralph sequel will bring in a ton of different characters, and Sarah Silverman's Vanellope will meet the Disney Princesses during her journey.

CinemaBlend's Eric Eisenberg recently visited Disney Animation Studios, where he had the chance to speak with the duo of Ralph Breaks the Internet Directors. And it turns out that the actresses who play the Disney Princesses had a say over their characters. As Rich Moore told it,

And we sent them the script so everyone knew what the scene was like and we thought, I hope everyone's game to do something that's part irreverent but respectful of their characters at the same time. And every single actor that we went to loved the idea and actually when they came in helped elevate the comedy or the scene as an actor does, and would point out, well, my character wouldn't say it like that, she would say it a little bit more like that. And it just added that extra layer of authenticity to the princesses.

Well, this is a classy move. The actresses who portray the iconic Disney princess obviously have a certain bit of ownership over their roles, so it must have been a relief to be consulted about their Ralph Breaks the Internet appearances. The House of Mouse knows what's up.

Ralph Breaks The Internet's contents are still largely a mystery, safe for knowing the title character and Vanellope will be traveling through the internet, and meeting all sorts of challenges. Eventually the Disney Princesses pop up, with all of the living actresses who played the characters reprising their roles. This includes the likes of Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Lea Salonga (Mulan), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), and Jodi Benson (Ariel).

In his same conversation, Rich Moore also explained how working alongside the actresses actually helped to inform their characters in Ralph Breaks The Internet.

Because, as we got to work with each one of them, it became really apparent to us that they really embody those characters. There is a huge ... Beyond the voice that they provided, obviously, so much of the character is embodied by their personalities. It was amazing. And we even, after each record session, set up a little time where the actress would sit with our animation department just to talk about the characters and the approach that they have when they played the characters. And it was great to watch this new crop of animators who were inspired by The Little Mermaid or the movies from the 90s, to meet these actors that provided the voices. These were the characters that inspired them to become animators.

It should be interesting to see how the characters are ultimately used in Ralph Breaks the Internet, especially given the controversy that has already surrounded the project. Advocates including Anika Noni Rose herself took umbrage with Princess Tiana's altered appearance, with Disney going back to make sure she's more accurate to her look in The Princess and The Frog.

The Disney Princesses will pop up in Ralph Breaks the Internet when it arrives in theaters on November 21, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.

This type of attention to detail is what we love about Disney animated films! And let's not forget - many of the original voice actors behind the Disney Princesses will be reprising their roles in Ralph Breaks the Internet! These women were also able to provide insights and inspiration to the animation team.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Has Lowest Rotten Tomato Score Of The Harry Potter Universe

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Has Lowest Rotten Tomato Score Of The Harry Potter Universe

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald doesn't hit theaters until next weekend; however, a lucky few people have already gotten to see the movie. Overall, reactions to the second flick in the Fantastic Beasts franchise have been positive. Still, if you head over to aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is scoring lower than every single flick in the Harry Potter universe.

At the time of this writing, reviews for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are running at 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, which aligns with roughly how our own Eric Eisenberg felt about the flick. This means the movie is at least slightly fresh and not rotten, which is great news for the studio. It's always better to see a shiny red tomato than the green splat, although in recent years audience perspectives have become just as big of a deal for the site as critics reviews have.

When compared to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the numbers aren't super far off. The first Fantastic Beasts movie runs at a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that plenty of people like the movie or mostly liked the movie and fewer people straight up disliked it.

When comparing The Crimes of Grindelwald to the various Harry Potter movies that have come out over the years, currently Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is also running somewhat lower. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are the lowest-rated in the universe after Crimes of Grindelwald, ranking at 78% and 77% respectively. The rest of the movies featuring Harry Potter are in the 80-90s percent range, score-wise.

Of the rest of the movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ranks the highest. It's at a whopping 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating near-universal acclaim. That's the final movie in the set with character deaths and the defeat of Voldemort, and it's no wonder that critics seemed to latch onto the flick as the best one.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the flick introducing Sirius Black, unsurprisingly ranks as the second highest, scoring a 90% on the aggregate site. The third book in J.K. Rowling's series is often a fan favorite, so it's not surprising the big screen version also did well with critics.

It is worth noting that so far only 35 reviews have been put up on the aggregator site. As we approach Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald's November 16 release date, more reviews should be added to the sum total. Whether that means the movie may dip below the fresh range or increase to an even fresher level remains to be seen.

As we wait for the movie to actually hit theaters--which is becoming more and more arduous by the day thanks to the teases about the movie's ending--you can also keep an eye on other aggregate site Metacritic, which actually is also running at 60%. On IMDB the movie has an 8.8, although with 553 reviews, it's unclear how many people have seen the movie yet.

That said, clearly there is anticipation for Warner Bros.' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. You can catch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald beginning on November 16 and read up on what we know about the project right now.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) - Rotten

Unfortunately, that's about to take a dip if the first reviews of the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are any indication. With a mixed 55% score out of the gate, the new movie is said to be too convoluted, with too many characters, and all in service of the next movie rather than the installment at hand.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - Wikipedia

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald grossed $159.6 million in the United States and Canada, and $494.1 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $653.7 million, against a production budget of $200 million. It is the lowest-grossing Harry Potter installment to-date.

According to its official score on Rotten Tomatoes, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the lowest-rated film in the Harry Potter franchise. In fact, it's the only film in the entire Harry Potter franchise that received a "rotten" rating, meaning it scored below 60 percent.

On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 52 out of 100, based on 48 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

After Watching The Frozen II Trailer, Here's What We Hope The Movie's About

After Watching The Frozen II Trailer, Here's What We Hope The Movie's About

The first Frozen 2 teaser trailer just came out and ... wow. It didn't reveal much about the plot, we didn't hear any of the new songs, and we didn't even hear any of the characters' voices. It was darker and bolder than expected, suggesting a surprising new direction for the extremely popular franchise.

Sometimes less is indeed more, and the Frozen 2 trailer gave us a lot to work with. So CinemaBlend rose to the challenge, with Dirk Libbey and Gina Carbone speculating through the waves, winds, fires, and snowflakes -- revealing what they hope the mysterious movie will be about...

Dirk Libbey: I love the way a trailer can be two minutes long and basically tell you nothing. We get a lot of cool shots, but without any context they just don't mean anything. Still, I get the feeling this will be something of a "road movie." Shots near the end that show them walking together and staring out over beautiful scenery together seem to imply they're going someplace, which is cool, because expanding the world beyond Arendelle is a nice idea.

Gina Carbone: If I had to imagine what the first Frozen 2 trailer would look like, this is not it. But that's a compliment. It would've been easy to give us something cute and funny. This is anything but cute and funny. It's intense, very dark, darn near frightening, and even ends with Anna grabbing a sword and slicing at the screen. I love that this gives us clues and mysteries, and fodder for speculation. I hope Disney doesn't follow this with a more typical trailer. Don't even preview the new songs!

Dirk: I keep going back to the shot of Anna surrounded by those odd crystals. She clearly isn't happy to see them, and the design shows up in the new poster as well, so we know they're important. They could be ice, which might mean they're a new aspect of Elsa's powers manifesting. Could we be seeing a story where Elsa is going someplace to learn about the origin of power in order to better control it? The first movie just sort of hand-waved it all away, "it's magic, don't worry about it."

Gina: I think she's surprised more than anything, like what is this stuff? The poster shows four different designs on the snowflakes. I like the theory that they represent the four seasons, and perhaps four different powers -- like Elsa with ice/winter. If so, I don't know if those crystals by Anna represent Elsa or someone else. The trailer does show a few autumn scenes, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are people out there with powers like autumn wind, summer fire. (What would spring be - growth?) There's a shot in the trailer where it looks like Elsa might be protecting Olaf from fire or some kind of barrier. A fire counterpoint to Elsa's ice?

Dirk: That works. We see the shot with the pair of new characters has one of them being blown up into the air by an apparent gust of wind.

Gina: OK, speaking of the new characters, I'm calling it now - the new girl and boy in the autumn woods are Elsa and Anna's mom and dad in a flashback. Maybe Mom had an autumn wind power the way Elsa has a winter frost power? Or maybe not. But King Agnarr had blonde hair and Queen Iduna was a redhead like Anna. I like the idea of tying in that history, since it seems like there's unfinished business with the parents.

Dirk: Hmmm.... I feel like that would be a fairly big retcon to throw into the sequel. Like, isn't that the first thing you tell the trolls when Anna is sick? "Elsa was born with these powers, and also mom has them too." Still, I can't say the idea doesn't have a particular poetry to it. There's no denying there's something of a similarity between Anna and this new character. They certainly could be related. And the idea that some of what we see here could be flashback should certainly be considered.

Gina: I know some fans were wondering if the new characters could be Anna and Kristoff's kids. It seems like there must be a reason why that new girl looks so much like Anna. I like the parents idea more than the kids, but who knows yet. Both of the flashback/flashforward theories could be wrong. We know Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown are voicing new characters, but not necessarily those characters. I'm excited to see what they bring. I'm also excited and curious for an explanation on the dark ocean opening. That's the sequence I keep going back to.

Dirk: That's part of why I think Elsa's own powers are at the center of this. I feel like she's testing herself there, maybe trying to accomplish some specific task with her abilities.

Gina: I like bonkers fan theories, so I like the idea that the parents are still alive out there (and connected to other Disney universes, because the wilder the theory, the better). Maybe this journey is to find them. That's probably too simplistic, but so be it. Since Elsa's powers were such a focus of the first movie, along with Anna finding herself and appreciating the true love of sisterhood, I like the idea of other characters also having powers. But of course Elsa's wintry powers would still be paramount in a movie called "Frozen." This is her world, we're just visitors!

Frozen 2 has several seasons to get through before arriving in theaters on November 22, 2019. That date is almost exactly six years after the premiere of Frozen in November 2013. Disney will almost certainly share more trailers and TV spots as the release date gets closer, along with an official synopsis that may pop holes in all of our hopes and theories. In the meantime, bookmark our 2019 movie release date calendar to keep up with everything both Disney and non-Disney heading to theaters this year.
